Progress On My Dress

So today's post is going to be really short, simply because, yes I'll admit it i have writers block. Well not really there is tons of stuff i could write about but today I'll just tell you about the progress on my shift dress.

I've successfully cut out the pattern pieces!


It's a really easy pattern actually....only four pieces.
Well then there is the bias tape but whatever.
I'm pretty sure that if I work on it most of tomorrow I can have it done by tomorrow night because we are going to the Muny! It the perfect dress for the Muny too!

Tonight I'm going to a Cardinals vs. the Reds game...
you better know what to wear to a game like that!
CARDINALS GEAR!!! STL it up! haha
There is only one clothing rule for a base ball game!
Please! No mini skirts or heels ladies!

Date Outfit

I'm back! Sorry no post yesterday but you will find out that I usually won't post on Sunday just because us bloggers need a rest too ;) haha.

First of all let me show you the outfit I wore for church yesterday.

I love this outfit and I don't know why i don't wear it more often.
I got the tunic top from Target about a year ago and the elastic waistband skirt from Forever 21 last fall.

But that isn't what this post is about haha.
Today i;ll answer the question...
"I have a dinner & movie date tonight! What should I wear?!'

Now first of all, your're going to the movies afterwards so heels are out of the question. Yes, even thought you want look your best, stilettos are just way too formal for the movies. If you MUST do a heel...wear a wedge.

Okay, now the first look you would wear to somewhere that isn't that fancy. However, you could dress is up or down according to the restaurant.I would wear some distressed skinny jeans, a cute tank top with some pointy toe ballet flats and chandelier earrings.
Something like this:

Now you can get this look using any tunic tank and any type of jeans and earrings in any colors i just used black and white color pallet to show you the basics of the outfit.
If you want to do a dress...go with a basic day dress (any color) and dress it up with a chain necklace and metallic flats or sandals like this look:


Now the 3rd look can be achieved from the two looks above. The 3rd look is for if you were going somewhere a little more fancier. For the first look all you have to do is switch out the jeans for a pencil skirt like this:

Just tuck the shirt into the skirt and TA-DA! Your ready to go somewhere a little fancier.
2nd look: simple as switching from heels to flats (because flats+movies=over dressed)

Well I still haven't figured out what i'm wearing but I have a feeling it's going to be the dress with chain necklace look!

I'm Making a Shift Dress!

So a few days ago I realized that I haven't made any dresses yet this whole summer and it is almost JULY!
To fix this problem i went down to Jo-Ann's (the closest fabric store around here)
and bought this fabric.

PREEEEETTTYYY isn't it?
i'm going to use it to make a vintage shift dress.
For those who don't know what a shift dress is it looks like this.



This is a more modern version of the shift dress. Lot's of designers have added there own flare to the shift dress.

and last but DEF. not least the Cotton Stretch Shift Dress from D&G

Shift Dress are great for any body type.
I think I might wear mine with a belt just to give it a little more shape.

Little Black Belt

You have heard of the little black dress right? It is a basic piece to have that can be dressed up or down.
Well let me tell you about the little black BELT!
Just as basic as the LBD, a black or grey belt can be paired with any outfit!
Here is mine that I got from Forever 21.



I pair this belt with everything!
Dresses, skirts, shirts...it is really a great investment.
Today I tried something new and paired it with a floral cami.



I really like how the belt can add a bit of an edgy touch to the girlie cami.
I'll probably wear my black gladiator sandals with and some black chandelier earrings.

Just one thing to remember about a black belt! NEVER pair it with brown!
Thats what the little gold or tan belt is for :) haha.

Accessories

Just a little note before i start writing about this. My mother brought to my attention that i had lots of spelling and grammar errors in my last few posts...
So what?! im not the best speller...haha. So just warning you before you read this.

ANYWAY!
I came across a outfit delima a few days ago (Father's Day actually).
The problem was we would be going to the Science Center for the afternoon and then straight to dinner.
Now for those of you who don't know what the Science Center is...let's just say it not somewhere you would wear something fancy. On a normal day i would wear the causal V-neck T-shirt and jean shorts.
But we were going to this fancy steak house place right afterwards. No time to go home and change.
So I had to come up with something to wear that would be nice enough for dinner but not too fancy that people at the science center would give me weird looks.
Solution?
My plain white, empire waist, A-line dress. (Got it from target a few years ago).



Cute isn't it? So yeah, simple enough for the Science Center because by itself, it makes the perfect day dress!
So for dinner later on i added the following jewelry.
A black, chunky, beaded bracelet made by moi!
Black, rhinestone, chandelier earrings from Gordmans.



So I threw these items in my handbag before we left for the day and when it was time to go to dinner I put them on and TA-DA! I was ready for a fancy dinner!
Lesson learned here?
Accessories added to any outfit can make it look different for the occasion

OMG! I love this website!

So there is the website call Couturious where you can style your own outfits using this years fashions! I've been doing it all afternoon! ha! i love it! now if only i had enough money to buy the clothes i actually use in some of my outfits i've already made.
Here is my favorite outfit i've made so far.
It totally screams summer, with the yellow accessories and the blue stripes say nautical! Yellow and blue is one of my favorite color combinations too!
TIP: If you are going to pair yellow and blue and you're older than 13, I recommend staying away from pairing the two primary shades of yellow and blue. I've tried it before and it reminded me of preschool. Pale yellow and navy blue look really good together
