About Myself

Intro (Hi, nice to meet you)
My name is Heather Elizabeth Morfeld. Morfeld is German if you didn't know. A good majority of my family (father's side) is German.
Anyway,
I grew up in the Festus/Hillsboro area of Jefferson County, Missouri.
(If you don't know where that's at it is somewhere between civilization and the middle of no where.)
Basically, 30 minutes south of St.Louis, so the Mississippi side, not the Kansas side.

School (not my thing but I have to go)
I would tell you where I currently live but that will soon be changing, maybe.
So how about I just say I currently live on campus at Lindenwood University, which is in St.Charles.
St. Charles is a nice area, I have contemplated finding somewhere to live up there once I graduate (I say up there because it is 45 minutes North of my hometown), but who knows.

Hillsboro
Oh, but before I continue to tell you about where I went to college I must answer the question that everyone from Missouri asks other Missourians. Where did I go to high school? #MOGirProblem
For some reason, if you grew up in Missouri, you have to ask any new person you meet where they went to high school as if you might be related or know someone of someone who also went there, which you probably do. Missouri is a small world. Anyway, the answer is Hillsboro High School
Not much to say about that place except it was built to look like a jail, our football team sucked but the games were the social event of the week. I went to Hillsboro when there wasn't a Taco Bell, or Phillips 66, or Dollar General. Just McDonalds and Circle K. After high school I did my two years at Jeffco, but that's a different story.

Lindenwood
At Lindenwood, I am studying retail merchandising. My original major was fashion design but I switched when I realized that you actually have to do a good amount of sewing to be a fashion design major. I don't like to sew. I like to design, but I do not enjoy sewing. It wasn't like I could just hire a bunch of people to sew my designs for me straight out of college. So I took my other favorite thing (making money) and applied it to the fashion industry- boom, retail merchandising.
There is a lot I can do with that degree ( which I will have come December 2014).

Work (No one likes it, but I need money $$$)
Here I am going to write what I really wish I could put on my resume but I'd probably never get a job.
I have some how managed to never work in the food industry EVER and for that I am thankful.

I tried my best to stay within the retail industry. I first worked at a JoAnn's Fabric store (thinking it would help my fashion design career somehow). I was the youngest employee there and I got fired because I refused to vacuum with a broken vacuum. (They said it was because I was 'seasonal', whatever). I was only 17.

Then I went jobless for about 6 months until I got my job cashiering and working the Old Country store part of Cracker Barrel where I was fired 4 months later because I was told my sales were down and "maybe I just wasn't meant to sell"- yeah okay.
Wasn't my fault I couldn't sell candy to old people with dentures and diabetes who just spent $45 on their meal. I think Cracker Barrel needs to re-evaluate their target market. It was like selling peanut butter to someone with a peanut allergy.

That same day I got fired at Cracker Barrel, I called up my connection at the church daycare and got a job a week later- taking care of two year olds. In which I spent two years of my life. By this time I was a freshmen at Jefferson community college.
Two years of taking care of 18 two year olds. My dad said working at the daycare "was the best birth control there is".
And he was right, to this day, I really do consider not having kids just because of that job. Kids like me for some reason, but I don't like kids.

After almost going crazy, I finally got out and got my first actual retail job at the mall.
I worked at American Eagle Outfitters in the South County Mall (and a little bridal shop in crystal city, but that was short lived).
I transferred to the one in the West County Mall per going to Lindenwood because it was just closer.

I remained there until just recently (February 2014), because I aspired to move up the chain of command and it just wasn't happening at that store. But I will still say it was the best job I ever had.
I am now the new assistant manager at Windsor (no we don't sell ties). So far it's been interesting. I've been learning a lot that's for sure. It's been a little hard to adjust to the new environment after being with AE for 2 years but I'll make it.

Future Plans (No, not kids, ew.)
No, I'm not even thinking about marriage or kids and all that non-sense. Some people from high school choose to go that route but not me. Maybe one day, but it's not close.
I'm at the point where I'm mostly focused on which way I want to take my career.
Do I want to continue up the chain of management with a clothing retailer?
Which company do I want to stay with for a long time.
Do I want to become a buyer? Merchandiser? Visual director? Who knows.
Those questions have very reasonable and obtainable answers.

I have a couple dream jobs that could be plausible but very hard to obtain:
  • Go to bar tending school after LU and opening a bar/bait and tackle shop somewhere in the south.
  • Becoming a sports broadcaster for the St. Louis Cardinals.
  • Becoming a personal stylist for a country singer.
  • Opening and owning a boutique for country singers in downtown Nashville
  • Being a magazine editor (fashion magazine of course)
  • Having my own talk show
Who knows maybe I'll just do ALL OF THEM!

So there, just some general stuff I felt like everyone needed to know.

Hope you enjoyed the entertainment.

-Heather
